In the beginning was the blog
February 18, 2011After years of having lots to share and few people to share it with, I have finally decided to begin a blog. Most of the posts will relate to issues surrounding science, faith, biblical scholarship, and things I think are cool. Some posts will contain my own thoughts. Some will link to posts by other people who have said something much more eloquently than I ever could. I routinely come across something in my Google Reader feed that I really want to share, but don’t want to foist upon every friend on Facebook. By putting it in a blog, it’s there for those who care and can be ignored by those who don’t.
Cognitive Discopants is my attempt to maintain a sense of humor in the midst of a very difficult experience, namely, cognitive dissonance. When your worldview doesn’t line up with your experience of the world, you’re faced with a dilemma. Some choose simply to ignore the experience. Some choose to find ways of interpreting the experience in a manner that doesn’t threaten their worldview. The most difficult option (and, for that reason, the path less traveled) is to actually re-examine one’s worldview in light of the new evidence. It can be a lonely path to travel, but in my view, it is the only intellectually honest one.
Appreciate you stoping by the blog!
You’re right, cognitive dissonance is a painful experience and often leads to a long and difficult journey of (re)formation, but it’s worth it. Know you’re not the only one on that path.
